The camp received a tractor and brush hog as a gift from Doug and Lee Ann Barnes in Okeene, OK. We're now back in the mowing and hayride business with a smartly painted Ford tractor. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Barnes.

Connor Baxter and his crew planted 450 seedlings on the western and southern side of the camp property. This was Connors Eagle Scout project.

MDA has been enjoying events here at Central Christian Camp & Conference Center for many years now. Please follow the link below to read an article about this wonderful camp in "The Daily Oklahoman." Click here for MDA article
A new patio has been added to the Pavilion. The patio is surrounded by benches for additional seating, enlarging the pavilion and campfire area to the large oaks. The project will be completed with the positioning of lights in the oaks, illuminating the area for evening events. This area is now accessible to all.

2000 feet of 8ft wide asphalt sidewalks have been laid
throughout Camp Tanglewood. These sidewalks connect the
cabins, to the conference center, bridge and new bathhouse
allowing all campers, including those with special needs to
navigate the Camp Tanglewood area. The sidewalks will also
provide emergency pathways as well as being an integral part
of helping to grow our camping program for individuals with
special needs.
Construction on the bathhouse/storm-shelter is underway.
Water lines are laid and the septic tank and lateral lines
have been installed. The foundation was formed and the
in-ground plumbing has been installed. The concrete slab was
poured on October 15, 2007 and the Styrofoam forms for the
walls are scheduled to arrive the second week of November. We
are all very excited to see this project nearing completion.
Special thanks again must go out to the Jimbo Moddrell
Memorial Rally organizers and participants, the Kirkpatrick
Family Fund and the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. This
project has been made possible through their generosity.

Central Christian Camp and Conference Center recently held
a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of an
accessible Bathhouse/storm shelter and connecting sidewalks.
The ceremony was held as a special thanks to those who have
contributed through donations and grants. Special guests
included several organizers of the Jimbo Moddrell Memorial
Rally and Run and Gayle Farley representing the Oklahoma City
Community Foundation and the Kirkpatrick Family Fund.
The project will entail the construction of a wheelchair
accessible bathhouse that will act also as a storm shelter
for the Camp tanglewood2 camping area. The project will also
include the installation of 1600 feet of 8ft wide asphalt
sidewalks. Once completed, the Camp tanglewood2 area will be
accessible to all individuals including those with special
needs. With a joint commitment from the Make Promises Happen
program and local supporters thousands of campers will enjoy
the rustic setting of Central Christian Camp for the first
time.
The Jimbo Moddrell Memorial Rally and Run was started in
2002, by the Moddrell family of Chickasha in memory of their
son, Jimbo, a Make Promises Happen Volunteer who passed away
in 2000. Over $62,000 has been raised since 2002 for the Make
Promises Happen Program to fund scholarships and most
recently a portion of the Bathhouse/Storm shelter project.
Founded in 1969, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation is
ranked as one of the largest community foundations in the
country. A Capacity Building grant of $5,000 was awarded to
the camp to help fund the sidewalk portion of the project.
The Kirkpatrick Family Fund is an affiliated fund
administered by the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. This
fund has awarded a $10,000 grant to the camp to help build
the bathhouse/storm shelter.

On Monday, July 23rd campers arrived to be greeted by counselors and a week full of fun. The Camp on the Nile theme really set this year's dances apart from all the other years, and the campers had fun making their costumes during arts and crafts time. Friday, July 27th the camper were leaving and the counselors were sad to see the last summer camp end.

Agencies and caregivers across Oklahoma joined MPH to make a memorable week. Monday, August 6th everyone arrived and prepared for the wonderful week ahead. Friday, August 10th came all too fast for the campers and caregivers that were having such a delightful time.
